Since the late 1980s, the LAREDO (LAcrosse REferee DevelOpment) program has been providing training for lacrosse officials around the country.
 |
Originally designed to teach 3-man mechanics to officials in the western United States at events like the Vail Lacrosse Shootout and the Texas A&M fall ball tournament, the program has now spread across the U.S.
LAREDO utilizes regional lacrosse tournaments and summer lacrosse camps as sites for intense and concentrated lacrosse officiating development. The philosophy behind the LAREDO program is to make these clinics accessible to all lacrosse officials from around the country. This balanced representation enables officials from developing and established areas to polish their officiating skills under the instruction of a qualified trainer.

Originally offering only a 3-man mechanics LAREDO (now known as Level 3 LAREDO), US Lacrosse now offers three separate levels:
LAREDO - Level 3 is designed around 3-man mechanics and more advanced level of play. Level 3 is for an official who has strong 2-man mechanics knowledge and is ready to start officiating higher level games that require three officials.
LAREDO - Level 2 is designed around 2-man mechanics and is geared towards officials who are looking to develop their skills and become stronger at the 2-man game.
LAREDO - Level 1 is designed for both established and developing areas that need help in the basic recruiting, training, retaining, observing and advancing education of officials. For more information about Level 1 LAREDO and the requirements to hosting one in your area, please review the documents below:

Scott Boyle Observers Program
The purpose of this program is to honor Scott Boyle’s name and legacy by facilitating the growth of younger officials around the country. The goal of this program is to develop officials, not grade them. As such, observers will be trained to identify and communicate key areas for improvement in working officials, and will be tasked with checking to see if these officials have implemented the suggestions into their games.
Experienced officials will be trained in observation, evaluation, and communication, and then sent to observe working officials throughout the spring season. Since the goal of the program is to help officials grow, each official will be observed at least twice in order to determine if he/she was able to implement the suggestions for improvement.
