BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse today announced the 36-player roster U.S. Women’s National Team for the ninth annual Champion Challenge, a US Lacrosse event, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Jan. 24-26, 2014.
After defending their FIL World Cup title this summer in Oshawa, Ontario, Team USA will square off against defending NCAA champion North Carolina, as well as NCAA runner-up Maryland over the weekend. The training squad will be split in half to compete in two contests each against North Carolina and Maryland.
The roster includes 15 members of the gold medal-winning squad, including five All-World performers in attackers Katrina Dowd, Lindsey Munday and Katie Rowan, defender Amber Falcone and goalkeeper Devon Wills.

Team USA last faced North Carolina in October 2011 at the US Lacrosse Stars and Stripes event in Raleigh, N.C., where the U.S. defeated the Tar Heels in a pair of split-squad contests, 13-7 and 17-8. Team USA’s last matchup against Maryland was at the 2012 Champion Challenge, with the U.S. prevailing 18-3 and 23-7, also in split-squad exhibitions.
Four former Tar Heels dot the Team USA training roster, including World Cup team defenders Falcone, Jenn Russell and Kristen Carr, and midfielder Laura Zimmerman. A team-high seven current and former Terrapins will take the field for Team USA, including returning World Cup midfielders Caitlyn McFadden and Katie Schwarzmann, as well as attackers Alex Aust and Karri Ellen Johnson, midfielders Taylor Cummings and Kelly McPartland, and defender Iliana Sanza.

Sunday’s 11 a.m. game between Team USA and North Carolina will re-air Monday, Jan. 27 at 12 a.m. ET on ESPNU.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, the U.S. Women’s National Team will host clinics for youth and high school players and coaches from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Register at uslacrosse.org/nationalteamclinics.
