The No. 1 team in the Nike / US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20 for each week of the shortened 2020 season just got better.

IWLCA second-team All-American and U.S. national team midfielder Kerrigan Miller announced Friday afternoon on Instagram that she will be transferring from USC to North Carolina.

She said she is in the process of enrolling in the university’s Sports Administration master’s program so she can pursue a potential career as an athletic director.

“This program is really unbelievable,” Miller said.

“Them being No. 1 wasn’t the reason I went, but it’s an added bonus,” she added. “One of my best friends is Katie Hoeg, so she definitely made this decision easier.”

Her familiarity with U.S. national team coach Jenny Levy played a factor in the decision, too.

Miller entered the NCAA transfer portal in March as one of the top players available. Her goal throughout the process was to come back to the East Coast to be closer to her family in Bayport (N.Y.), though she said there was still the possibility she could return to USC.

“In order to make this process as painless and simplistic for me as possible, I kind of kept it tight,” Miller said of her recruitment. “Even when I entered the transfer portal, I wasn’t 100 percent sure I would leave USC. Those girls are everything to me.”

In six games this season, Miller led the No. 7 Women of Troy to an undefeated start. She recorded 10 goals, 16 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 13 draw controls.

“It’s bittersweet right now,” Miller said, “but I’m super excited.”
