With an overwhelming number of lacrosse programs and leagues shutting down or temporarily suspending activity due to COVID-19, there is a growing need for athletes to train remotely.

Many athletes, such as Katie O’Donnell from the U.S. women's national team, can quickly and easily upload their GPS training data to the SPT cloud platform, GameTraka. This gives players the ability to quantify and assess remote sessions and becomes a powerful tool that can help provide a high level of service during these times.

Individual or small group sessions are hard. They can be isolating and monotonous for athletes undertaking them. With an SPT2 device, athletes will have a tool to provide motivation and accountability.

Depending on what your goals are for the lock-out period, training sessions can take on many different forms. This period can serve as a ‘maintenance’ block for fitness qualities that coaches have built up over the course of pre-season training or it can serve as an ‘intensification’ phase to gain an advantage over a competitor who may be resting.

There are many advantages for athletes having an external load monitoring tool (SPT2) at their disposal:

  • Athletes can compete against their teammates and drive positive outcomes
  • Athletes can compare their own output session on session then week on week to track progression and status.
  • Athletes can gain insights into session goals based on running outputs
  • Athletes can begin to understand in what areas they are strong and where they might need to push for improvement

The 5 step process outlined below is a simple way for athletes and coaches to gain and understanding of a session that athletes are completing on their own (or ideally in small groups).

  1. Coach or athlete creates a ‘Shell’ event via the GameTraka App, press the ‘New Event’ button on the home screen of your GameTraka App.
  2. Athletes complete remote session using their own SPT2 device.
  3. Athlete downloads data off SPT 2 via ‘offline’ mode in the SPT Bridge
  4. Athlete uploads their performance directly in to ‘Shell’ event.
eg. Remote Training Session on dd/mm
  5. Coaches or athletes can assess and report on the session as a whole and assess individual athlete output.
