SPARKS, Md. — Three games from the 2017 Team USA Spring Premiere, featuring the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams, will be live streamed free of charge on www.uslacrosse.org next weekend. The event takes place January 14-15 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The U.S. women’s team, preparing for this summer’s Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup in Guildford, England, will play the University of Florida and the University of Notre Dame. The U.S. men’s team will play the University of Notre Dame.

In addition to the games (tickets available here), the U.S. national teams will be conducting youth player clinics for girls (January 14) and boys (January 15). Clinic registration is available at www.uslacrosse.org/springpremiere

This is the final opportunity for some of the players on the U.S. women’s team 25-player squad to make their case for a spot on this summer's FIL World Cup roster. Following the event, head coach Ricky Fried will trim the roster to 20. Later this year, the staff will select 18 players and two alternates for the World Cup. The U.S. women have won the last two FIL World Cups and will be looking for a third straight title, a feat last accomplished when the U.S. women won four straight championships between 1989 and 2001.

The U.S. will face formidable opposition in Florida and Notre Dame. Florida, which played in the event last year, is coming off of an 18-2 season in which it won the Big East and lost a heartbreaking 14-13 decision to Penn State in overtime in the NCAA second round. Notre Dame went 14-7 last year, reaching the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to eventual national champion North Carolina.

This will be the third event for the U.S. men’s national team since John Danowski was named as head coach of the U.S. team for the 2018 FIL World Championship in Manchester, England. Notre Dame went 11-4 a year ago, falling to eventual national champion North Carolina in the NCAA quarterfinals. The Irish have reached NCAA championship weekend three of the last five years.
