SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today added four lacrosse tournaments owned and operated by STEPS Lacrosse to the pilot phase of its sanctioned tournament status.

The US Lacrosse tournament sanctioning program represents an initiative to raise the quality of the youth tournament experience and publicize events that meet operational criteria developed by US Lacrosse and industry experts.

“It is with great pride that STEPS Lacrosse will be a sanctioned event operator of US Lacrosse,” said Charlie Shoulberg, CEO of STEPS Lacrosse and a former assistant general manager of the U.S. Men’s National Team. “Our mission to provide industry best practices and family friendly experiences can only be enhanced by working with the national governing body. I would also like to thank our great partner, Nike Lacrosse, for its unrivaled support of all our events.”

Lax for the Cure, the STEPS Lacrosse flagship girls’ event, has raised more than $2 million in the fight against breast cancer. This year’s tournament is set for June 23-25 in New Egypt, N.J.

The other three STEPS Lacrosse events to pilot the US Lacrosse sanctioned tournament standards are:

Lax by the Sea (girls), June 10-11, New Egypt, N.J.
Future Legends Lax (boys), June 17-18, Boonton Township, N.J.
Nike G8 (girls), July 8-9, Morris Plains, N.J.

Sanctioned tournaments have been deemed by the sport’s national governing body to meet best-practice standards in five categories: venue, game format, risk management, tournament administration, and certified US Lacrosse officials. The pilot phase represents a one-year transition period to full tournament sanctioning by US Lacrosse.

“Our tournament sanctioning program helps to give parents, who foot the bill for their child’s participation, some peace of mind that a US Lacrosse Sanctioned Tournament meets certain standards for consistency and player safety,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We’re thrilled to have Lax for the Cure and other STEPS Lacrosse events join a growing list of tournament directors committed to providing a great youth lacrosse tournament experience.”
