More than 1,200 of the nation’s top high school girls’ lacrosse players, and the women’s national teams from Canada and the United States, will be among the competitors at the US Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament at Yale University over Memorial Day Weekend.

The U.S. women’s national team will play Canada on Saturday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Yale’s Reese Stadium. This will be the final public exhibition for the U.S. women’s team before this summer’s Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup in Guildford, England. The U.S. defeated Canada in the gold medal match in the most recent World Cup in 2013.

The US Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament, which dates to 1933 and has grown to be one of the nation’s largest collegiate recruiting events with over 200 college coaches registered, is sponsored by the Heather Leigh Albert Foundation, Yolo Sportswear, First Scout Productions, Gatorade and The Pearl by Guardian, along with US Lacrosse national partners Greenfields, Nationwide, Sports Force Parks and SweatX.

The historic event opens on Saturday morning with pool play in the high school division. There are 64 regional all-star teams representing 27 states that will compete in eight divisions. The top flight, the Onondaga Division, will include teams from Baltimore, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Long Island, Massachusetts/Rhode Island, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Long Island has won the division the last three years.

Following the conclusion of play, the Heather Leigh Albert Award will be presented to the outstanding player. Established in 1994, the award has gone to some of the greats in the sport including former U.S. World Cup players Lauren Aumiller and Katie Chrest. Last year’s recipient was Jamie Ortega, a current senior at Middle Country (N.Y.) High School headed to the University of North Carolina.

The U.S. Women’s National Team trains and plays in best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Brine (equipment), STX (equipment), Under Armour (equipment) and SISU (mouthguards). In addition, they are supported by partners including MedStar Health and Bank of America, along with US Lacrosse national partners Greenfields, Nationwide, Sports Force Parks and SweatX.
