US Lacrosse and its partner in youth safety, the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI), are jointly celebrating the notable achievement of having 30,000 adult coach and volunteer background screenings completed. US Lacrosse mandates the national background screening as part of its join and renew process for all adult coach memberships, and absorbs the associated cost.

NCSI is the exclusive background screening partner for US Lacrosse and recognized as one of the nation’s leading providers of background screening services. It is a subsidiary company of SportsEngine, Inc., an NBC Sports Group company.

NCSI currently works with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and more than 50 national governing bodies in providing background screenings.

US Lacrosse’s initial goal was to have 30,000 coaches and volunteers background screened by April 2020, but surpassed that target by reaching the milestone in January.

“We’re proud of the progress we’ve made with NCSI as our background check provider,” said Dr. Bruce Griffin, director for US Lacrosse’s Center for Sport Science. “We took it upon ourselves to evaluate the differences between background checks and we learned that while there are many options out there, not all background checks are created equal. We want our families to know that US Lacrosse stands for something vitally important - player safety.”

“A key part of our mission is to help provide safe and positive experiences for youth athletes and we are proud to see US Lacrosse leading the way to protect their athletes on and off the field,” said Trish Sylvia, vice president at NCSI.
