Officials Prepare for World Cup

On July 12, lacrosse fans will flood the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, England, for the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup.

Over the course of 10 days, teams representing 25 countries will play 97 games. Just as these national teams have been practicing and preparing for this tournament for months, another team continues its vigorous preparation — the officials.

Officials play one of the most important roles at any lacrosse event, especially one on the world stage.

US Lacrosse Bolsters National Teams Program

US Lacrosse has announced significant upgrades to the U.S. National Teams Program with the appointment of Kevin Ankrom to the newly created position of High Performance Director and the establishment of a National Teams Development Program (NTDP). Melissa Coyne, currently the Director of Games Administration for US Lacrosse, will serve as the director for the NTDP.

FIL Women’s World Cup Schedule Announced

The U.S. women's national team, the two-time defending world champion, will open play at the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup on July 13 against Scotland. The event, which is taking place July 12-22 at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, England, includes 25 nations.

The opening ceremony will kick off the event on July 12, followed by host England playing Wales on the championship pitch at 6 p.m.

US Lacrosse has announced the 18-player U.S. Women’s National Team that will compete in the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup, July 12-22 in Guildford, England. The roster includes seven players from the 2013 U.S. women’s national team that won gold at the FIL World Cup. Two also were members of the 2009 world champion U.S. women’s national team.
