Gene Venuto and Shay Cowan ventured into coaching at Mount Laurel Lacrosse (N.J.) with vastly different backgrounds. Venuto had coached in various sports before jumping to lacrosse, while Cowan played for years and walked on at New England College.

Venuto and Cowan began coaching third-graders in 2008 in the southern New Jersey program with somewhat contrasting coaching styles. But that was nine years ago.
