How Soon is Too Soon to Specialize?

Across the country, athletes are starting to specialize in a chosen sport at younger and younger ages. But how young is too young? The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a clinical report published in the Pediatrics journal last month examining this topic. The short answer is — athletes should not specialize in a single sport at least until they reach puberty, and preferably not until later in adolescence (approximately 15-16 years of age).

LaxCon Registration Opens

SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today opened registration at uslacrosse.org/laxcon for the annual US Lacrosse Convention and Fan Fest, set for Jan. 20-22, 2017, in Baltimore. LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event, trade show and kickoff to the season.

Coaches, officials, and program leaders can register for the full US Lacrosse Convention for as low as $100 for US Lacrosse members and $160 for the general public. Tickets for the US Lacrosse Fan Fest, a portion of LaxCon’s Jan. 21 schedule open to lacrosse fans of all ages, start at $10 per person.
